The 1808 SAP Business ByDesign release is currently rolling out, and VistaVu’s consultants have been busy attending sessions, holding webinars, testing features and helping our customers consume the new features. We asked some of our key consultants working within ByDesign, what were the top enhancements they saw in this release that got them excited, because we knew this would help our customers. Here is what they said.

Ellen, SAP Implementation Consultant, was focused on the Finance area and noted these:

Tax Reporting for US Under the CF/SF Program

Now, when you create a 1099 Tax return for the US, for a state that follows the Combined Federal and State Filing program, the 1099 File also shows the corresponding values; this can then be e-filed.

You can now assign a cost center in the manual Withholding base amount entry. This would help in the cases when you have set up certain G/L accounts cost and expense account groups which require cost center during posting. The corresponding Journal entry now contains the Cost Center on the Cost and Expense line.

Evrim, SAP ByDesign Staff Consultant and Ema, Senior Solution & Development Consultant, work helping customers with customizations and noted these two:

Adapt data source

For many reports, there are usually some key fields missing, when added to the report, take more effort than needed. Now, if you need to add a field from a different data source and join/combine, you can adapt the related data source using the “Adapt” option in the Design Data Source view to add missing standard fields. This now empowers customers to make changes they need right in the User Interface tool.

Additional Extension Scenarios

In 1808, they’ve included additional extension scenarios for various customer specific fields. One example is starting from product data, a key user can extend to the purchase proposal and request (item), then from product data to customer return notification (item), then lastly, to the stock transfer process from outbound delivery to inbound delivery (header & item level). Any update to functionality, that reduces going into the SDK to manually extend data from one business object to another, is always fantastic news.

Leah, Senior Consultant, who specializes in Manufacturing and Supply Chain Management noticed this one:

Tracking Information

You can now maintain the Tracking ID and Tracking URL under the Tracking Information section of the Create Inbound Delivery and Goods Receipt view. You can store and use the inbound delivery tracking information provided by logistic providers.

Laura, Director of Presales, works to understand customer’s needs from many Industries was excited to see these:

Service Order Imports

In 1808 Service Orders can now be created by imports from an Excel file. This simple excel template can be used by offsite Field Workers and upon return to connected areas, send the Service Order from the Excel file into ByDesign. A long-awaited feature for Field Service companies.

Date Fields can be turned into Key Figures

Using the Data Source Adaption feature, you can now turn a date field into a Key Figure, which will enable you to create calculated key figures to monitor the number of days between events.

These are just some of the highlights that were top of mind at VistaVu. Make sure you get access to Upgrade Resources and have a good look through everything. Remember to also test your critical processing in your testing environments. Here is a great SAP resource to start with:
